Just thought I would post a heads up to everyone, got this blurb from NEVC today:
4/12/06
FROM: Phil Lampert
SUBJECT: E85 Evening News Stories
Two major television networks will be airing stories this week on E85 and FFVs. Tune in tonight for an NBC Nightly News broadcast story on the fuel. Tomorrow, CBS Evening News plans to air a piece regarding the same. Although we are unsure of the spin on these stories, staff has been communicating with both networks on the accuracy of their information.

Anyone else read the Popular Mechanics issue on Alternate Fuels?
The two fuels they reviewed of interest to me are E85 and Biodiesel.
They gave E85 a "Hopeful - to a point" outlook rating and Biodiesel a "Good" outlook rating.
According to their math: | Quote: | | Popular Mechanics May 2006 - One acre of corn can produce 300 gal of ethanol per growing season. So, in order to replace that 200 billion gal of petroleum products, American farmers would need to dedicate 675 million acres or 71 percent of the nation's 938 million acres of farmland, to growing feedstock. |
They also gave Electric vehicles an outlook of "Mixed" and Hydrogen and outlook of "Good - someday".
The "spin" that I saw in Popular Mechanics is that biofuels are promising, but that we shouldn't bet the farm on them yet. It seems that 200 billion gallons of petroleum products a year number is daunting. |
