|
|
I'll have a bunch of questions I'm sure, however one thing that appears apparent, most people aren't running a secondary power valve and square jetting, rather I see no secondary power valves being used and staggered primary/secondary jetting being used.
I'm looking to get a pair of E85 metering blocks but undertake the rest of the changes (boosters/air bleeds, emulsion ports) myself. Is it worth looking to base my PVCR and primary/secondary jets around having a secondary power valve, or should i blank this off and jet up the secondaries? |

Walkinshaw- your questions would be best answered by Mark Sullens. I'll see if I can find him over on his website and get him here. Mark does use PV's a fair amount if I am not mistaken in his E85 carb builds.
Eric and several others here also can help you if they are watching. |

Thank you Larry,
I personally would NEVER run a secondary powervalve in any carburetor....its just not a good thing to do unless your running a road race car where the tire spin will happen before acceleration.
as for jetting, it depends on the use.
I would start with a primary PV and do about an 8-10 jet spread....maybe more depending on the size power valve channel restriction....
as for a good place to start...try about 10 jet sizes larger than you ran on gasoline.
you want the flow of the Primary jet + the PVCR to flow the same as the secondary jets.....
in some cases I will plug both Powervalves....and jet square, but thats a rare deal...
If I can be of any assistance in this build let me know....
I charge $402 to do the 4150 and $475 to do the Dominators,.....
I can also tell you that 9 out of 10 times the "KITS" will not net you the most from your carburetor and that consistancy and power could be lacking. _________________ http://www.marksullense85carburetors.com |

Mark,
Thankyou for your response. I've seen i would say the tip of the iceberg that is effectivly setting up a carb for E85, and would agree with you that the E85 metering blocks are not the full solution.
Being Over the ditch in Aust. makes access to E85 builders a little tighter and freight is a killer. In that we have built (and will build) everything for my street car, and would like to continue this with the carb. The whole process doesnt frighten me, and the only parts that look like I cant undertake with my Wide Band, numbered drills and time is the booster swap (if required) which will be farmed out to a carb shop.
I'm sure once I have resarched as much as I can i'll be back to ask a few more questions (probably stupid ones), but I'm all ears let me tell you.
The reson for this first question was that upon bowl removal my 750HP has dual PV's, it just raised a point that I didnt see too many carbs that were dual PV equiped, and even less that were set up for E85.
The setup will go on a 100% street cruiser.
408ci Cleveland
225cc 3V CHI heads
12.2:compression (was going to go 11.4:1 on gas, but may go for 12.2:1 on straight E85, not sure about going higher on a 4300lb+ street car)
249/257@50 0.661" Hydraulic Roller
4000rpm stall
3.70:1 9" with 26" tyre.
Crank angle 8 Coil LS2 setup
E85 is becoming increasingly available here and are yet to see too many downsides.
Cheers

Being in Australia, give Bruce at Smartcarby a call. He can help with any mods you can't handle as well as some advice on metering. _________________ Mark Whitener |
