Hey all. I'm currently in the process of switching over to E85. I'm putting a small Edelbrock Supercharger on my relatively stock SBC and I've got some questions.
First, here's the specs:
Stock SBC, forged Crank, Cast −18 cc pistons. Compression calculates to be 8.71:1 na and 11.27:1 boosted, corrected for Las Vegas altitude. 11.67:1 uncorrected.
Brodix IK200 aluminum heads.
Custom Cam Co. cam 227/230 @.050 540/540 lift 112 lsa.
Edelbrock E-force Supercharger 5psi max boost
MSD E curve distributor
Horespower Innovations Holley 750 Carb boost referenced. Thanks Eric!

This is strictly a street car that probably will never see the track. Max RPM 5500.
Here's my questions. What plugs should I run? Brodix recommends Autolite 3924 for na pump gas. Should I go 1 or 2 heat ranges cooler?
Where should I start with my timing? I don't want to run into detonation right off the bat and blow the tops out of these cast pistons. Plus, I'm hoping the E85 will help control any detonation issues.
Can, or should I lock out the timing for a street car with a supercharger? The MSD e curve allows for the timing to be locked and adjusted for start up.
Thanks for any help and comments!

Nick

Very Happy

hang in there - someone with knowledge of setups like yours will chime in soon

the platform I run has 8.5 to 1 compression , factory roots sc with boost in the 11-14 psi range on top of it and I run plugs in the 2-3 ranges colder than stock ( autolite copper core)

not sure if it even remotely relates to your setup but at least your not sitting waiting for reply #1 anymore Laughing

Thanks murphinator. Very Happy Mine is carbureted but still helps. I believe I'll start with one heat ranger cooler on the plugs. Now if I can just get some advice on where to start with the timing.
Thanks

Hi
I run a 383/6-71 @approx12#
last year prior to switching to E85
IT MADE 757CBHP 680cft/lbs I have a dominator modified by Mark Sullens and a new Dominator from Eric I have run them both and they work great hopefully be at the track in a few weeks I am running plugs 2 cooler than stock and 34* timing with .5 taken out for each 1# of boost its a locked distrib and I am using the msd-6-btm ignition.
good luck

Wow novaz nice numbers! Mr. Green
I'm hoping with only 5psi and E85, I won't have to pull much timing out.
Do you drive yours on the street or is it track only? Mine is strictly a street car.
Would you suggest locking out the timing for a street car only?
thanks

Mines track only
I think its easier on the motor to have it unlocked but if your ignition is adjustable you can try it either way
5PSI is a good start for a street engine but still be aware of your A/F as Blown motors especially do not like detonation if you do get the itch to really want some extra power (its addictive when you have a blower)I would for sure look at getting some forged pistons.
good luck

Thanks Novaz.
I plan to build a 383 short block with forged piston next yr.... Then I'm sure I'll be pumping up the boost. Laughing

Nick, you're welcome. Thank YOU for your business.

I like that Autolite 3924 plug for what you are doing. Its a good reliable plug that will stay pretty clean with your street driving. With your low boost I say run it.

For your timing, you could lock it out, but you might try one of the curves first. If you have a curve that has about 22* initial with 36* total that starts advance about 2000 and is full in by 3000.

Good luck with that combo -- make sure you let me know how that puppy runs!

Eric, Thank YOU for all your help and suggestions! I'll give those timing curves a try. I'll let you know how things go once I get it going.

Whatever they come out of the box at. I believe they come gapped at .045" which should work fine. If you ever start increasing the boost I would close the gap up a little (like .035 for 8-10 psi)

Well, if all goes well I should be firing this thing up on Mon... Here's a question.
Should I get the timing set before I put the belt on the supercharger? I know it will run crappy but I figure it will be safer than running the risk of detonation from advancing the timing too much. Any opinions?
