Hello all,

I am in the process of building what I hope will be a credible resource on Alternative Fuels, namely E85.
To that end, I am always looking for interesting and credible information on E85 / Ethanol and other Alternative Fuels.
Thanks for your interest!

LOL! I've had that same idea, EJ: http://www.BaseStationZero.com/ (just starting to rebuild)

I'm presently in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. E85 is not available here, but can be found 2 hours south in Tucson. Last time I was there, price was US$2.599/gallon. A 10 percent blend of ethanol and gasoline is used the the regular gas stations in the Phoenix and Tucson areas as an oxygenated fuel during cooler months to reduce air pollution.

I'm Eric and live in West Michigan -- E85 is catching on here and most cities have at least one station. I use it in my 68 Camaro that I drive on the street and race at the drag strip.

Omaha Nebraska

I don't have a flex-fuel car, but looking to possibly convert one of my family's two cars.

Nebraska, as you probably know, is the 2nd largest producer of Ethanol Very Happy behind only our neighbor Iowa. Our state charges lower taxes on E-10, making the mid grade (89 octane) cheaper then the low grade (87 octane). Because of this, nearly every car in the state that uses gasoline, uses e10. We are getting more e85 pumps, but unfortunatly NOT in the metro areas of Omaha or Lincoln. Evil or Very Mad The pumps are popping up all over the rural countryside where the ethanol plants are located.

As of today (November 15, 2007) E10 was $3.05, E85 was $2.29, and 87 octane low grade was $3.15, with premium (91 octane) at $3.25.

This is a great site. Look forward to getting to know more of you.

Hello. I have a 1967 VW Beetle with an engine punched out to 1915cc and built for boost, running 15psi. My best time in the 1/4 thusfar is 13.64 at 102.8.

Once 93 octane went to $3.85 /gallon, I tried $2.49/gallon E85 and fattened my fuel map (running MegaSquirt). I was shocked! With a rough retune (basically just increased my whole fuel map by 40%), not only did it perform better under boost, it idled better and had much, much more low-end torque and drivability. Now that I have it tuned better, it's like an entirely different car, all thanks to E85. I never got it to run so well on gasoline.

The only disadvantage is the reduction in milage. I was consistently getting 30-36mpg on gasoline (no small feat with a 200+hp ACVW engine!) and I now only get around 22-26. The amazing improvements in response, torque, and peak power are more than worth it for a car that's only driven on nice days and the occasional drag strip pass.

I recommend E85 to anyone with a forced induction vehicle.

I'm in western Oregon (Eugene area). And I also speak a little Icelandic, in case Mr Eiki is still hanging around. I too am running MegaSquirt, though not forced induction. Tuning on E85 turned out to be more than just balooning the fuel table by 40%. It wants a fair bit of fuel at WOT but it turns out to be very tolerant of lean mixtures at part throttle cruise (more on that in a different post).

Hello I am Daniel from Sydney Australia we have one E85 pump in our state which is about the same size as California.
Luckily it is less than 20 miles from me Very Happy so it is definitely a fuel option for me and my 13 to1 440ci Mopar- hopefully you guys will teach me the way to do this all properly.

Hello from Norway. Our gov't decided a few years ago that E85 should be sold as a climate-friendly fuel. Nowadays just about every modified street or race car runs it, most of the green guys still run gas. How's that for irony? Wink
