Hello,

I picked up this truck a little over a month ago and have been putting nothing but E85 in it. I'm right on the money with 13 MPG. Anyone else have a 2000 Ranger to compare this to.

Gas is only $2.15 - $2.25 right now in Colorado and I can get E85 for 1.83. No, I'm not saving money with E85 right now but I did want to try it out.

Any comments are appreciated.

eddiebo924-- That engine is pretty durable- I have over 209,000 on my Taurus 3.0L FFV and it acts like it will go 400,000. Of those miles about 190,000 is on E85. Mine is a 2005 and has the algorithm method of determining alcohol content and setting AFR. Yours is likely different-possibly having the real alchol sensor thus they act differently. There is some debate if the Taurus 3.0L and the Ranger 3.0L are exactly the same- Ford also may have progammed the p/u somewhat differently for torque.

Mpgs on the Taurus are as follows for the following condtions;
Altitude 800', typical drive cycle- 35 miles 80% rural hwy, ave speed on hwy 60 mph,
Summer (and on E85)-- 22 mpg E85 and 27 mpg gas (19.5% diff)
Winter (0-10 degrees and on E70) 20 mpg E70 and 21 mpg gas. (4.8% diff).

Yes- you read the winter/summer differentails right. Something in the programming or engine design has these the opposite of what one would expect.

One comment I heard repeated several times by the stickshift Ranger FFV owners was they noticed they could climb hills in one gear higher so at least in some of them the torque was noticeably better on E85.
