| My engine builder told me we could get 10-15 more HP using E-85 in our crate motor stock car without modifying the fuel system. I contend that you must update your carb and fuel pump to optimise the power. If what I've read on this site is that E-85 takes about 30% more fuel to make the same power. Is he wrong? |

You need need more fuel because the fuel has about 30% oxygen. Given that- air will no longer be your limiting factor like it is with gas. You will end up with more power than with gas (especially for boosted or high compression) as a general rule. To end up with more power you indeed will need the ability to add more #'s of E85 per given amount of air intake. You are not far off with your 30% number or even higher if you are going for more power than gas.
Others like Hotrod and Drag Chevette can help you more- you will get a more complete and faster answer if you list your specs. |

| This is a GM Chevrolet "604" crate motor. I don't know all the specs I suspect I could get them of the GM performance website. What I do know is that it is a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet with the fast burn aluminum heads, 4BBL carb, hydraulic roller cam, wet sump.and I think 10.5 compression ratio. It is supposed to be rated at 400 HP. |

last year a customer of mine was running 500cfm 2v carb on gasoline, he was finishing anywhere from 5th-8th place....
I swapped his carb to E85 and he has 2 feature wins so far this year and pulls away from everyone on the straights.
so, to answer your questions:

10-15 in an uncalibrated E85 carb, My circle track guys have seen more along the lines of 25-30....

carb yes, fuel lines maybe, pump should work unless it is stock.

incorrect, 30% more fuel will make MORE power.
he is right, you will run faster......if I can get you set up with a Carb let me know.
caution, kits do not net you the most power....
