I am a strong proponent of E85 and have had a personal interest in the production of ethanol and its endorsement by the MN Corn Growers Association, MN Coalition for Ethanol, MN Department of Commerce, MN Office of Environmental Assistance, MN Dept of Agriculture, National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, US Dept of Energy Clean Cities, Ford Motor Company and American Lung Association.
Recently, previously approved permits for building an ethanol plant in Heron Lake, MN were challenged. It is obvious that the strong arm of the MPCA and the petroleum industry is leveraging their strength and financial support to oppose ethanol production as a clear air alternative to peroelum based products.
Citizens should remain concerned that politics and petroleum and care manufacturers' lobbying dollars are influencing clean air decisions within our state. The MPCA will hold a special board meeting on May 10, 2005 at 520 Lafayette Road in St. Paul. Citizens may review the Board Item or view the Permit at htt;://www.pca.state.mn.us/news/eaw/index.html and submit additional written comments until 4:30 p.m., May 5, 2005.
Take time to learn more about the production of ethanol in the state of Minnesota and why it is a clean, less expensive alternative which would reduce demand for petroleum imported from politically unstable regions. Thanks! |
