I drive with a normal Mercedes 200 K sometimes E30. There i find no problems. But now I take E70 inside. This makes problems after cold start so, that the motor do not good react on open the throttle and the car drives sometimes with a jerk. When I drive 20 or 50 m and the motor begins to become warmer, this effect goes quickly away. Also we can conclude, that the reason may be, that ethanol cannot so quickly vaporize like gasoline.
Now my question is: Why have FFV-cars not these problems? They also must start cold and have also yet more ethanol inside with E85. |

It needs more fuel!! You´ll have to excuse my bad english but i´ll try my best! When coldstart the engine needs more fuel and the CPU corrects that, but when you´re running on as high as E70 the coldstart fuel is just not enough. You need to either back down on the Ethanol or make the CPU or fuelsystem give the engine more fuel. An easy way to let the enginge have more fuel is to increase the fuelpressure, how much you have to increase i don´t know. It´ll have to be by trial and error! Another way around the problem is to locate your temperatursensor that gives information to the CPU. I have done this in my Volvo with great results. Try to find an electrical chart over your cars electricalsystem and increase the resistance on the temp sensor. You don´t want this system orking at all times, so put a switch inside the car. I´ve got a switch that is normaly closed but when i press the switch the circuit opens and i force the current to pass via an NTC-resistor to improve coldstart capability. I´ts kinda difficult to explain Swedish and well near impossible i English but I tried! Hope you can make something out of this!!
Look at the pictures at the bottom of this document! It might help illustrate what I mean!!

Thank you very much for your explainings. Now I understand that, because when the weather is warmer, it needs only neer 20 seconds open the throttle and the jerk is away.
More fuel can also be given by a higher gasoline pressure. Today I look for that.

Hello from America. I understand that Bosch is a German Company. Try them for a larger fuel pump for your car. I bet they have one for your needs. I use E85 in America only. A bigger fuel pump made it run great! _________________ http://www.grantouringlabs.com My ethanol conversion and tuning site. |
