| now that the pump near me is about to open and my conversion of my truck is underway(parts gathering) I want to run a mix in my van, a 1997 olds silhoette 3.4 v6 I was wondering what percentages should I avoid for matieral compatiblity problems I know the fuel trim should handle aprox 35% but I need to avoid a matieral failure for momma and the twins so as a rule should I avoid a 50% or more or 30% etc. |

Hi,
My Opinion from reading this forum is that if you want to avoid Service Engine Soon Codes and the like... you should stay under 50%... As you mentioned the vehicle should be able to adjust fuel/air mix up to around 35%...
Since non-FFVs are only warrantied to handle 10% Ethanol... your guess is as good as mine, as to how Ethanol friendly your vehicle's Fuel System was actually built. I personally wouldn't use more then E30 in that vehicle for any length of time...
One tool to see if your Fuel System is having problems with Ethanol is to check/replace your Fuel Filter. If the Ethanol is degrading the Metal/Rubber/Plastic in the system it may show up in the Filter. Just be sure to know what your Filter is suppose to look like "Normally"...
Just my two cents. |
