I have a 2004 chevy Impala. There is a gas station here that is running a special on E-85 for 85 cents a gallon each Thursday for the month of April. Could my car handle E-85? Maybe 1/2 E-85 and 1/2 unleaded gas? My impala is a 3.8 engine. _________________ I have a 2004 Chevy Impala

The '04 is pre-flex fuel. you do not say what engine is in it but if you have not run it before- then I would sneak up on it- starting with a lower %. I am assuming you have 10% ethanol gas where you are and assuming you could possibly get summer grade E85 (83.3% ethanol/balance gas) then I would start with about 1/3 OR less E85 which would put your tank blend at 35% alcohol. This will give you an idea how your car's computer will adapt. If it lights the check engine light (CEL) then add a gal of gas. Non-Flex-fuel cars are all over the board for what will keep the computer happy- some will light the CEL at 35 alcohol%- some will not set a CEL until 70%. |
