The inline filters are easier to set up as you can put them most anywhere. They also have the advantage that you can open them up and check what is getting into your filter periodically and if you have to pass a fuel test as some racing series require they are a handing fuel test point.

Just make sure you use a stainless screen type. I started out with a marine canister style paper filter which was fine on unleaded, but on E85 caused a restriction and the engine would lean out at WOT. Also the glue that was used in the paper filter broke down in the e85 and filled my pump with it.
Now I have an inline -8 filter that I got off ebay. Said it was good for methanol, and so far it has been fine.
