I found my inspiration for writing my editorial column.
Check this math out and tell me I'm not seeing things.
10.6 billion dollars earned in 3 months time. It's 90 days. That's 117.8 million dollars of profit a day??????? I think I missed a zero somewhere. That was always my downfall in math class..... _________________ http://www.grantouringlabs.com My ethanol conversion and tuning site. |

But this is actually really, really good for ethanol, since it ethanol prices track gasoline prices and high gasoline profits mean high ethanol profits. That means more money going to the ethanol industry and more being put into ethanol research and plant construction. We'll reap the benefits in 2-3 years when we have almost twice the ethanol production than we have today. This is growing the ethanol industry faster than could be imagined ten years ago.
I, for one, am happy to help out the American farmer and to grow my local Minnesotan economy (but I still wished it cost about 1/2 of what it does now...). |

I also think in the long run it is a good thing.
It not only will increase price levels and profit levels for ethanol production but it will keep fuel supply vulnerability on the public's mind.

Hey if you want to get mad, read this.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/07/30/BUGRBK71ND1.DTL&feed=rss.business
This guy is predicting $200/barrel by the year 2010. Opposite of other predictions of a return to $50/barrel by the year 2010. He also notes that the recent New York Times article ran by the American Petroleum Institute that showed that oil companies only earned 8.3 cents on the dollar as compared to 8.5 cents on the dollar by average of other companies to be a form of spin doctoring. His claim is that they actually get closer to 31 cents on the dollar. |
