Last day of July, and I am almost out of the drum Mark (DragChevette) sold me. So I go to the local station with the lowest price on E85 thinking they are selling more than the others. $2.59/gal for UL and $2.49/gal for E85. Almost the same content tested 1 month ago. 76%
Is it because the price difference isn't enough for people to think it's cost effective or what?
I was near the Iowa/Illinois state line a month ago and UL was $2.49, E85 was $2.09. I think that is enough for people to accept a little LESS mpg!
What is happening here? Not refilling the tanks because the fuel isn't selling?
Refilling the tanks with 78% ethanol so the % doesn't increase? I hear 440 Jim say he has been getting 85% for a month or more. Guys in Michigan say they get it! WHAT GIVES WITH ILLINOIS!!! Evil or Very Mad

Maybe the retailers are thinking because the E85 user in Illinois can pay the same as gas and then file for the rebate Illinois has to get the benefit.
SHAME Evil or Very Mad

If they would price it better they would sell it better- of course it needs to be priced 12%-25% lower than gas to move! -- and there is no reason other than too many fingers in the pie or plain greed that E85 should be over what- about $2.15. Wisconsin is a high tax state and has no breaks for E85 at all- E85 here is $1.799 to $2.159.

Here are WI e85 prices; http://e85prices.com/wisconsin.html

Here are other IL prices; http://e85prices.com/illinois.html

Let them know you are committed to E85 and why-- but that you will be buying elsewhere soon. Talk to the manager.

E85 here is pretty consistent for several weeks at approx 83.3% alcohol (which is 85% denatured ethanol)- the max per handbook standards.

E85 isn't priced competively here in Maryland either, but compared to race gas it is a bargin. I bought my first supply this year on May 1st and it was 83%. I checked with the station owner in early spring and it was around 70-75%.

So I just bought another 80 gallons a couple weeks ago, so I have enough (100+ gals) for this season and the start of 2009. The local drag strip opens in March, and the 1st weekend in April starts our points series.

Very cool Jim. I wish E85 was like that here. Indy is 165 miles away, I may have to take my test equipment and go down there and check content and fill drum. I think in the near future there is a race or two @ Clermont! Thanks nelson 8708 for the info!! newalky
Down here in Mobile we have only three stations that sell E85 all from the same guy and he buys E98 and mixes it at the pump so we have E85 all year around. He keeps it around 10 cents cheaper than gasand also sells E 98 the last time I Bough that it was 2.09 and gas was 2.59. Also if your mix is low you Could add some rubbing alcohol to get it up but make Sure its 100%. We did his on a buddy's Car that had too big injectors it ran good on e98 but when he had E85 in it was too ritch and we added Strait rubbing alcohol and it leaned it out and ran fine just Be Sure to check the Lable because they sell rubbing alcohol that is 50% water.

I do not recommend rubbing alcohol off the store shelf-- typically this is only 70% isopropyl. The red bottle of "HEET" is more pure isopropyl and might be more acceptable.

What may have been referred to as rubbing alcohol could also be denatured ethanol at times so read the label- I have seen a few pharmacies starting to offer it. If this is the case it might be acceptable as pharmacutical grade would typically be annhydrous ethanol 95% and 5% methanol. One can also find denatured ethanol in the paint isles at major stores.
