I have an '89 Chevy S10 with 4.3 V6 and TBI injection. A local E85 fuel station opened up recently. They have E20 available as well, and I have tried that in the truck and it seems to be running fine. With the cold weather in WI, I haven't been brave enough to experiment with the E85 yet. Will the truck run on it stock, or will I need to do some tuning to the engine? Or will I have to wait until spring and find out by trial and error? Smile

to make it run right you will need to increase the inj pulse, and pump shot

i can burn proms for most gm vehicles and reflash all 1999-2007 gm truck pcm's(i can change all tuning parameters, fuel, timing, removing codes)

im in wisconsin also, if you need some tuning done come spring let me know

Is there a way to do it without reprogramming? Or an easy way to switch between 2 programs. With only one station with E85 in the area and the truck getting about 18-20mpg, I don't want to be too far from a station when it gets near empty.

Doing a web search, I've found that there is a way to make the fuel pressure externally adjustable. Would just turning up the fuel pressure be enough? Or would it work if I ran a prom set up for E85 and turn down the fuel pressure when running regular gas?

If you find out it won't run E85 in stock condition, you could have the programming changed to somewhere between E85 and gasoline and it might be able to adjust between the two on its own.

I don't know how the fuel pressure will affect it. Unless you can find someone who has tinkered with that engine, you may have to do some experimentation yourself.

i could set you up with a larger prom that could hold 2 .bin files and you could swich between straight e-85 and gasoline,, car guys use this set up all the time for race gas or low octane tunes

I installed a set of injectors from a 5.7 on the 4.3. So far I haven't had any problems running on E85 with the bigger injectors. The only problem I'm having is it starts hard in the cold. Is there a way to richen up the cold start mixture?
