As I go about my daily life, I like to interest People in + new ideas. When I mention E-85, most people don't know what I'm talking about. If I explain it's Ethanol based fuel, some think it's kool, but than I also get a lot of - response. They say it takes more energy to create than it produces, & are down on the subsidized corn it uses as a feedstock. Their of the impression that ethanol is only produced from corn!

GM's FFV site has a corny theme:
http://www.gm.com/company/onlygm/

ADM promotes it's Ethanol production on PBS. 'course this is Ethanol produced via fermentation < distillation (Like KY Moonshine!) Not sure what use the spent mash has, but I'm sure it's recycled. This is a high energy consumption process, I'm not sure what the net gain may be. It's a excellent use for surplus, &/or contaminated corn/grain.

Last week, the finnacial Guru of KSDK's Noon News Show (St Louis, MO) stated that She did not think Ethanol was a viable subsutite for gas. She said there's a trade off: Either Farmers grow corn for food, or Ethanol production. That if corn is diverted to Ethanol production, there will be less for food!
I guess She doesn't realize that Sweet Corn, Silver Queen, Buttermilk Corn are not the same as Horse Corn (Which makes for good eatin' if you pick it just when the tassels turn, steam it than eat it it right away!), and usually arn't grown togeather. Maybe she was refering to corn to be used as feed for livestock, like it might raise the cost of a steak...
Many People are of this impression.

There is expermentation & development of a different bacterial process for Ethanol production. These bio-digestive bacteria can consume just about anything organic... The by-product of their digestive process is: Ethanol! I've even heard rumors that they might be able to convert sewage into Ethanol! If any1 has any up-to-date info on this state of the art process, I'd appreciate learning more about it.

Just think, You could eat Your corn, & have Your Ethanol too! Laughing

Very Happy Very Kool!

Now that they've got a process for Cow manure, & I ran across an article (Pg no longer displays) describing swine waste into Ethanol...

Idea Seems logical that Sewage could also be used as a 'feedstock'...

Question Any news on this
