To do the water type ethanol test --all you really need is a 100ml graduated cylinder and a pipette. You should be able to get these thru a lab supply house in your country.
Here is the test;

The cheapest solution is to go down to the super market and buy a plastic baby bottle, that is marked off in ML.
Also do a search for scientific supply companies, or companies that cater to photographers or wine/beer makers. Those three should all have small graduates marked off in ML.

True- but do make sure if you do it this way -you do need 2 bottles to be accurate- since when you add water the total volume shrinks as the ethanol goes into the water (for every 100ml of tested solution it will shrink 1-2 ml which will distort your final test because you end up adding more of the second material added). Measure the water and E85 (or straight ethanol) separately) then pour them together for the test.
Picture that you have a container full large rocks and then you pour sand into it- the sand disappears into the large rocks and the total volume is less than the separately measured volume. In the picture of the graduated cylinder note the volume was only 97 ml vs the 50 ml E85 + 48 ml of water it called for which you would think would = 98 ml. Maybe not a big deal but will gain you 1-2% of final blend accuracy if that is important.

If you want an electronic gauge to tell you what your ethanol content is on the fly, check this product out:
http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/ECA/ECA.htm
They have some AU distributors. If they don't have them in stock, the manufacturer can ship worldwide i think

If your getting your stuff from just fuel petroleums your somewhere in melbourne then im assuming. i get E98 from just fuel, marios a great guy actually. I ordered the GM Ethanol tester for him about a year ago as he use to send his fuel to get tested. it has saved him time and money.
Although if your getting E85 theres a few E85 servos in melbourne that you can obtain it from aswell now.
Whats your ride by the way ?? |
