Getting back to the "10x10" goal:

The idea would probably require more Ethanol production plants and yes a better distribution network. |
I wonder whether the recent move away from MTBE will help that distribution network? Some blenders recently came to believe that they will be legally liable for health/environmental damage caused by MTBE, starting May 5th. They reacted by switching from using MTBE to ethanol as a blending agent. In some areas (Virginia, New Jersey), a few filling stations even "ran out of gas", while their supply orders adjusted.
If wonder if the shift towards ethanol by those last few MTBE hold-outs, may have helped finally make ethanol available for virtually all blenders in the country? That's the kind of thing that would finally allow for a national standard for ethanol blending. Domestic ethanol production isn't sufficient for a 10% standard today, but we could start with 3%. |
