is there any simple way to cause a seperation ?

the closest e85 pump is still 2 states away from me so it hasnt been practical to convert anything I drive on the street but all gas sold in Maine is e10

I could choose one vehicle to run a high ethanol concentration in and run the rest of my vehicles on straight gasoline if it could be done easily.

I am guessing it would be quite involved and even more of a PITA than driving to Boston but as they say you dont know if you dont ask Wink

any bright ideas Idea

First if you were able to separate the ethanol from gas in E10 (you could thru the use of water in causing a phase separation) you would find the gas to likely be to crappy to use since it is likely a RBOB or CBOB. The RBOB or CBOB might be ok if you started with premium instead of 87. Base CBOB/RBOB is only about 84 octane.

2nd you would then have to distill off the water from the phase separation down to approx 95% alcohol and 5% water. Next, it would be best to use zeolite to remove the last of the water to end up with 200 proof.

Far easier just to order drums of denatured ethanol, industrial ethanol, or even a race blend such as Rockettbrand. Of course this is higher cost than pump E85.

yeah, I wouldnt want to go through all that ^

I also hadnt considered that they use ethanol to bump up octane so you would have super low octane gas after removing it.

so much for that thought Laughing
