What carb do you have and what tuneup is in it (jets, bleeds, IFR's etc)?
I'm running with the same blend fuel as you so I may be able to tell you if you are in the ballpark or not. _________________ E85 racer and E85 carb builder

OK, that explains a lot. I do my E85 Dominators way different than ProSystems for the very reason you are describing. Pretty much every spec you list would be different in one of my carbs.
I can help you get your carb straightened out, but have you talked with Patrick James yet? If he cannot or will not help, feel free to call me any time and I would be glad to.
My phone is on my website home page. www.horsepowerinnovations.com If we talk live I would feel more comfortable going into the details of the hows and whys . . . _________________ E85 racer and E85 carb builder

WHAT, get some summer blend?
what a freaking moron, he could have just told you how much to change the jets to compensate for the lower blend numbers.....
but then again....he may not know that answer or didnt want to take the time to help you....he already has your money right?
as Eric said, his combination is much different and in my opinion is out to lunch compaired to ours.
good luck with the carb, let us know how it works....if you need it converted to WORK on E85 i'll be happy to convert it for you....
I have seen this a bunch, fixed several and have the process down.
Sorry if I come across harsh or brutal, im just tired of smoke n mirror games being played with peoples hard earned money, people draw you in by the sweet talk and mind games just to get your cash but then leave you hanging....
he has your money but now he cant seem to tell you how to fix the problem?...
just go buy some 85%.....now thats a carb tuner!....LOL _________________ http://www.marksullense85carburetors.com |

| just kind of a follow up.The e85 is all new to me so that is why I went with prosytems to start out with.I have a couple guys that do really well in racing and they both recommended the prosytem carbs.Granted neither one of them run e85 so its going to be alittle bit of a learning curve for me.I have emailed Erik before and he sounds like a top notch guy.The prices difference on his 1050 and prosytems was 100.00.I bought the we can flow it and set it up for your exact combination.I basically wanted things as easy and safe as possible for my first attempt.I will learn the process..thanks again |

Joe- don't feel too bad. That is exactly how others have fallen into the Patrick web. If it is still leaving horses in the stable when you are through with it then Eric and Mark are the place to go. Patrick might know his gas carbs but has not proven himself on E85 but I hear they are real "purty" and he sure has his followers that worship the ground he walks on. |

for one, I dont even think he owns a flow bench....he talks about it, but if you go look at the photos of his shop not once do you see a flow bench or a dyno.
in fact in other post he speaks of using a dyno from another town, why would he do that if he owned one?
Im sorry but if I owned a $50,000.00 piece of equipment a picture of it would be somewhere on my web page.
for two, if he did flow bench test it he would have to completely drain the fluid thats in the bench and replace it with a fluid that is at or near the same viscosity of E85....this is a very costly change and would probibly not be done for a singe carb test.
and if it was flow tested it would be a guess at best as most flow bench fluids are not the same viscosity of E85.
im sorry you got suckered....but remember the carb can be fixed a whole lot cheaper than your engine can. _________________ http://www.marksullense85carburetors.com |

It will ONLY be a couple more months before you can get 83%- 85%. Thats not a long wait is it? Did you test the ethanol % of what you can get now?
I have one of Mark's carbs, and I have seen Eric work on and tune carbs.
Both definately KNOW what they are doing with E85 carbs! newalky |

<---im going out on a limb here, and i hope for your sake im wrong.
but you can put 90% blend in that carb and its not going to help your issues, its not the fuel its the calibration...
I have had several of those carbs come across my bench to be fixed, the guys fell into the same smoke n mirrors trap that you did and they ended up spending their money twice to get it fixed, the calibration is just wrong for E85.
the last one of the P*@ S*$!#^s carbs I reworked the guy picked up .27 and went dead on 5 in a row....I can tell you that i have seen these carbs and Im talking from experience,
I still think i would contact your builder and ask him what you need to do to the carb to run it on E83....its a simple answer and a man of his ability should be able to tell you something other than find E85....Dont let him brush you aside and accept that for an answer, its not good enough!
I know in my builds my carbs use the same calibration from E81 to E85 depending on the engine they are going on....anything less than 81% and a simple change is required to compensate for the different fuel blend....and yes, the same carb can be used for 70% blends as well with a few more mods.
$475 will fix that Dominator....and it will be quicker and more consistant than it is now!

keep us posted! | in this case I hope your wrong.I paid 1050 for the carb and it better work.Im blaming myself right now for the winter blend and will try summer stuff in another week.If that doesnt cure it then I will get allittle more involved with getting it right.Im not going to pay a additional 500 to get it to work I will send it back before that.I liked what Erik was doing and during the process was torn between prosytems and Erik. The only reason I chose prosystems is because on paper he seemed a good fit for what I was trying to do.I have absolutely no knowledge with e85 and with sites like this and others Im picking up some real usefull information.Im not ready to give up on this yet and after getting the correct fuel and reading my wideband I will hopefully understand alittle more.I will run this out before I say anything negative about anyones parts. Now if by chance this carb doesnt do what prosystems says it will do then I will expect him to stand behind it...Once again thanks for the info and the offer they are both appreciated..Joe |
