We have this kind of E85 here:
Ethanol min 70%
ETBE max 25% (ETBE=Ethyl tert-butyl ether)
Buthanol 5% or less
Isobuthanol 0,5% or less
It call RE85 and have no gasoline at all. Don`t yet know is it good or bad.
I use it last summer in my bracet car(8,525@158) with NOS and I think it work very well.
wonder will I need some kind of top lube because there is no gasoline? |

From what I've read, the RE85 does contain gasoline. The difference between what we call E85 is that the ethanol comes from industrial waste sources instead of corn. The "R" designates "Refuel" E85. It sounds like a much more viable operation to me.
Is this the fuel you're talking about? |

exactly same RE85. they use waste to make that and there is no gasolin in it. I just yesterday find that out

I think nhra compares E85 to gasoline when dicide safety thinks like driving suit and so. Interesting to wait what our association do. Will they compares Re85 to gasoline or methanol because there is no gasoline? |

If I remember correctly, butanol is a much lower octane than gasoline. I am not sure how that effects the detonation resistance when mixed with 85% ethanol but you may not be able to get the same level of performance from RE85 as we do E85.
EDIT: actually the main non-ethanol component in your E85 you state is ETBE (no butanol) which has a higher octane rating than gasoline. ETBE has an octane rating that is higher than gasoline so I would think that your RE85 is probably higher octane than our E85 here in the states. _________________ E85 racer and E85 carb builder

ETBE have almost same octane level than ethanol. Buthanol have less octane but it have less than 5% it. If you only look octane ratings I think that RE85 is very good for racing. |
