we just got our new motor running and we are running E85 for the first time. the initial setting on the carb was done for the motor specs on a new quick fuel E85 750. jeep seems to run good, but seems hot (lean) on the exh side, but running 78/ 88 jets. we cant seem to find any pics of what the plugs should look like when tune is right, and how to read them. any help appreciated. thanx.........Mudy

Welcome Mudy Smile

It was covered here in an old thread-- go to hotrods two links inside the thread for more;

I am sure using the search function I could have found more threads- it has been covered several times.

Hey mudy,
your lean on the jetting.....

I build E85 carbs, have built E85 carbs for a long time.....

and i told you over on the email that you were lean.....

there are many many people on here that will tell you that I know E85 Carburetors, I offered to get yours right.....

or just take my advice when I tell you that 78/88 jetting is way too lean for E85....

I have some dominators out there that are running 97/107 jets...

your plugs will read white, or slightly discolored.....im suprised if your not baking the porcelin off the center electrode....

Quote:

Jay,
i dont have any pics...the porcelin will be white like they are new. or slightly discolored....
the outer threads will be discolored about 2-3 threads from the end then go back to normal.
the ground strap will have a rainbow which should be in the middle of the bend...(ignition timing)

as for the jetting.......WRONG.....there is no way that that thing is running on E85 with those jets, Quickfuel stuff comes factory with 87/95 jets in it.

your gonna blow your stuff up if you run that......

E85 will only smell, if it is LEAN.....if thats why you think its fat, your wrong.

$175 ill tear it apart and reset the calibration to QFT specs for you.
for $275 Ill set it to My calibration which will SMOKE the quickfuel tune up....

they sell them Generic tuned because they dont know if you have 302ci or 502ci.....they have to fit them all.

I custom tune and know you will pick up at least .15 if not .2 in 150' track...no promises!

if I tune it to my calibration for you by Linn mud race this fall, I will sponsor you 15 gallons of E85.....you recieve a voucher and i will be at the track with my barrell passing out fuel to those that have a voucher, so bring your cans.

let me know.....Mark 573 694-4088

Clear as MUD!!!.........???
